Honda FC Sport

Honda revealed the Honda FC Sport design study model at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19, 2008.

As one of the Insight Concept launched by Honda (the other one is CR-Z sporty hybrid concept), the hydrogen-powered (hence the name, FC, which stands for fuel cell), three-seater sports car, super car to be exact, concept drew a lot of attention.

The FC Sport futuristic model is packed with hi-tech from the Honda innovative R & D team - fuel cell tech, light-weight, ultra-low center of gravity, powerful electric motor performance and zero-emissions - all in all demonstrating Honda’s vision to make environmentally responsible vehicle without sacrificing performance and the fun factor.

It must be a very, very expensive car

Wembley Stadium for London 2012 Summer Olympics

I always enjoy (and eager) to visit stadiums - these great architectural achievements are not only excellent in design, but also give the sense ‘power’ to the home crowd.

Of some sports stadium I’ve visited, I wish I can visit the all-new Wembley Stadium that will act as one of the venues for the London 2012 Summer Olympics.

Wembley Stadium facts

90.000 seats, total cost £352.603.000, sliding roof, 2 screens having the size of 600 television sets, 310 places for wheelchair users, 133 meter arch above the north stand and visible right across London, designed for football, music and rugby events, expected rugby and football visitors: 1.5 million each year, future use: Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup and World Athletics Championship (Source: staynl.com)

In my opinion, the design is very interesting - note the arch of the stadium. Not only to sports, the Wembley Stadium is important to London tourism.

If you happen to visit London, make sure you pay the new Wembley Stadium a visit.

Fox Sports In-House Creative Group Design

Design, nevertheless, influence the branding of companies, including those that involve in sports industry.

Fox - the broadcasting network giant, has employed and contracted some of the best talents in sports design. One of the in-house creative group that produces all the promos for Fox Sports and FSN, including occasional gigs with the sister sites - FCS, FoxSports.com, etc. is Fox Sports Design.

Often mistakenly identified as Fox Sports Graphic team that produces graphics for Fox Sports TV broadcast, their portfolio is exceptional, and in my opinion, better suited to my taste than those graphics produced by the Fox Sports Graphic team.

From the Fox Sports Design site, you can access some of the best promo in the world of sports - College football, MLB, NFL, NASCAR, and other sports.

Head Airflow 7 CB Tennis Racquet

Airflow 7 CB is a tennis racquet developed by Head, one of the leading tennis equipment company.

The Airflow series are developed mainly for Women’s tennis, and enhanced with Head’s CrossBow technology that essentially maximizes energy for optimum power.

The design itself is originally developed by IDEO, a well-known design firm.

The interesting Airflow design note by IDEO is that it is aimed to serve female recreational tennis player niche, underserved, market. Therefore, IDEO proposes a design that makes the head appears smaller than it is. Why? Because larger tennis racquet head results in bigger sweet spots, and this suggest a less talented player, no matter how skilled you are in tennis.

So, all in all, the Head Airflow series are the right tennis racquet for those who value (more powerful) performance and highly aesthetic, professional look.

Salomon Snowboard - The Sick Stick

Salomon Snowboard is the maker of Men’s and Women’s snowboards, snowboarding boots, and bindings.

The design is not only attractive, but also ‘green’ and renewable - The Sick Stick product line of Salomon Snowboard even won EcoDesign Volvo Sports Design Award at ISPO 2008.

About the SickSticks - The snowboards are made from bamboo fiber - an ultra-renewable material. In each board, 400 grams of bamboo replace 300 grams of plastic, 100 grams of resin and 200 grams of fibreglass. It is also comes in a cotton-bamboo knit bag instead of a PVC sleeve, while the hangtags are printed on recycled paper instead of coated stickers.

Well-designed and eco-friendly - no wonder Salomon Snowboard won the EcoDesign award.

Hi, and welcome to Design in Sports.

I will write about anything related to design in sports - sportswear, sports gear, sports equipment, sporting goods, sports accessories and other sports-related design.

If this is not your first time visiting Design in Sports, you might notice that the blog is ‘gone’ for a while - it’s because my web hosting server is, let’s say, broken. The result - the loss of information, including Design in Sports very first five posts!
